Ververidis Filippos is a Professor in the Department of Agricultural Botany at the Hellenic Mediterranean University (HMU), affiliated with the School of Plant Sciences. He holds roles as Principal Investigator of the Plant Biochemistry & Biotechnology (PBBL) research group and Scientific Coordinator of the Biological and Biological Applications Laboratory (LBBA). He also serves as Coordinator of Academic Advisors for faculty members and Mental Health Advisor. His work focuses on biotechnological innovation in plant-derived bioactives, microbial biofactories, and olive oil quality optimization through omics approaches. Educational background: BSc in Agriculture (Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, 1986), PhD in Postharvest Biochemistry & Biotechnology (University of Reading, UK, 1991). Postdoctoral research at the University of Reading (UK), Michigan State University (USA), and IMBB-FORTH (Greece). Research interests span metabolic engineering of microbes for hydroxytyrosol production, plant secondary metabolites as bio-protectants, postharvest physiology of horticultural crops, and omics-driven strategies for improving olive oil quality. He leads projects on synthetic biology applications, plant-microbe interactions, and agro-food sustainability. Over 50 peer-reviewed publications since 1989, with recent focus on engineered microbial systems, pathogen genomics, and functional food development. Grants include leadership roles in EU-funded initiatives and national research programs. Active in academic governance as part of HMU’s Research Center steering committee and AgroFood Sector researcher. His lab (PBBL) collaborates internationally on topics like microalgal bioremediation and plant pathogenomics.
