Vishal Gupta

Dr. Vishal Gupta is a Research Fellow at the University of Technology Sydney (UTS), affiliated with the Climate Change Cluster (C3) within the Faculty of Science. He leads seaweed research initiatives focused on leveraging algae for climate mitigation, sustainable food and fuel production, and economic growth. His work integrates multidisciplinary approaches, including protoplast-based aquaculture systems for hybrid seaweed development and bio-refining processes to create decarbonized products like ethanol. Dr. Gupta holds international fellowships, including the Marie Curie Fellowship (EU) and INSPIRE Faculty Fellowship (India), and has extensive experience across multiple countries.

His research interests emphasize high-throughput screening for seaweed hybrids, biostimulant development, and stress tolerance trait transfer to land crops. He teaches 'Genetic Engineering and Systems Biology' at UTS and actively contributes to policy recommendations for marine resource management. Dr. Gupta’s expertise spans 'omics technologies (genomics, metabolomics) and translational research, addressing challenges in sustainable development and climate resilience.
