معرفی
Mathieu Pernice is an Associate Professor and Deputy Director of the Climate Change Cluster (C3) at the University of Technology Sydney (UTS), within the Faculty of Science. He holds a PhD in Biology from Université Pierre et Marie Curie (Paris 6), followed by postdoctoral research in Australia. His research focuses on coral symbiosis, seagrass health, and algal biotechnology, addressing climate change impacts like ocean deoxygenation and coral bleaching. He co-leads two research teams (Algal Biosystems & Biotechnology, and Seagrass Health) and mentors early-career researchers. Key projects include developing sustainable biomanufacturing using algae and sublethal stress markers for ecosystem monitoring. He has been funded by grants from Fermentalg, AlGenie, and Winifred Trust. His editorial roles include Associate Editor for Scientific Reports and Reviews Editor for Frontiers in Marine Science. He teaches courses on climate change and biotechnology at UTS.
Research Interests: Coral reef resilience, marine microbial symbioses, seagrass stress responses, and algal-based bioeconomy solutions. Recent work explores hypoxia effects on corals, seagrass thermal priming, and microalgae applications in bioplastic production and rare earth element recovery.
Grants & Collaborations: Includes projects on AI-driven algal bioreactors, wastewater-based cyanobacterial bioplastic production, and seagrass health monitoring. Collaborations with industry partners such as NewEra Biotech and Fermentalg highlight translational research goals.
Labs/Teams: Leads the Algal Biosystems and Biotechnology team (focused on sustainable biomanufacturing) and the Seagrass Health team (developing stress monitoring tools). Collaborates with the Future Reefs team on coral reef research.
