Steve Slocombe

Dr. Steve Slocombe is a Lecturer in Biosciences at Swansea University's Faculty of Science and Engineering. His primary research focuses on microalgal biotechnology, particularly in waste remediation, bioenergy, and natural product development. He is affiliated with the School of Biosciences, Geography and Physics, contributing to both teaching and research activities.

Dr. Slocombe teaches undergraduate and postgraduate courses, including Cellular & Microbial Biology (BIO104) and Natural Products Biotechnology (BIO343). His expertise spans plant and algal biotechnology, marine biology, lipid metabolism, algal physiology, photosynthesis, and bioinformatics.

His research has been supported by grants such as the £204,032.69 'VISION WITHOUT MOTION (VISMO)' project investigating non-motile algae eyespots and the 'EMPR' PhD studentship exploring phosphate remediation mechanisms in microalgae. He supervises PhD students, including current research on phosphate regulation in microalgae.

Dr. Slocombe has co-edited a book on microalgal production and authored over 20 peer-reviewed articles. His work bridges fundamental biology with applied biotechnology, addressing global challenges in sustainability and resource efficiency.
