Dr. Almut Hupbach is a Professor in the Department of Psychology at Lehigh University , where she has worked since 2009. She specializes in human memory research with a focus on hippocampal functions, episodic memory, and memory dynamics. PhD in Cognitive Psychology from the University of Trier, Germany (2000) Hupbach's research explores the dynamic nature of long-term memory, investigating how memories form, update, and remain stable. Key research areas include memory consolidation, hippocampal binding processes, and intentional memory control. Her work has implications for legal sectors, education, clinical practices (PTSD treatment), and societal processes. Recent research trends show her focus on memory updating mechanisms, stress effects on memory consolidation, and reconsolidation dynamics. She frequently publishes with undergraduate and graduate students, emphasizing collaborative research. She leads the Memory Lab at Lehigh University, which investigates how episodic memories transform upon reactivation and integrate new information. National Science Foundation (NSF) funding recipient Hupbach teaches courses in Cognitive Neuroscience, Research Methods, and Memory. Outside academia, she is an avid runner with her dog Luke and has studied sculpture at the Baum School of Art for over a decade.
