Matthew McConnell, MD is an Assistant Professor of Medicine in the Department of Medicine (Digestive Diseases) at Yale School of Medicine. His research focuses on liver diseases, particularly alcoholic liver disease, portal hypertension, and the role of endothelial dysfunction in hepatic pathology. He holds academic appointments in Digestive Diseases and is affiliated with the Liver Center and Iwakiri Lab. Education: MD from Weill Cornell Medical College (2012), BA in Chemistry from Amherst College (2006). Residency at Johns Hopkins Hospital (2015), Fellowship at Yale-New Haven Hospital (2018). Research Interests: Investigates liver sinusoidal endothelial cells (LSECs), hepatic lymphangiogenesis, and the pathophysiology of liver diseases such as alcoholic hepatitis. His work explores molecular mechanisms driving endothelial dysfunction and novel therapeutic targets for portal hypertension. Key Publications: Includes studies on IL-7-based identification of liver lymphatic endothelial cells, sympathetic nervous system regulation of lymphangiogenesis, and alcohol-induced Hsp90 acetylation's role in LSEC dysfunction. Recent work also examines liver injury in COVID-19 and proteomic signatures in alcohol-associated cirrhosis.
