Ravi Shankar is a Lecturer in the Department of English at Tufts University, specializing in Creative Writing, Poetry, and Digital Humanities. He holds a PhD from the University of Sydney (2020), an MFA from Columbia University (2000), and a BA from the University of Virginia (1996). His research bridges literature, technology, and cultural studies, with notable work in Asian American literature and international translation. He has published 15 books, including the Muse India award-winning Andal: The Autobiography of a Goddess and The Many Uses of Mint , and co-edited Language for a New Century , hailed as a landmark in world literature. Dr. Shankar’s work emphasizes digital trust, global technology policy, and creative writing pedagogy. He has taught and performed worldwide, appearing in media such as The New York Times, NPR, and PBS Newshour. As founder of Drunken Boat , one of the oldest electronic literary journals, and Chairman of the Asia Pacific Writers & Translators (APWT), he advocates for cross-cultural literary exchange. His recent memoir Correctional (2021) explores incarceration and rehabilitation through a personal lens. His academic contributions include the Digital Planet series analyzing global digital competitiveness and the Digital Intelligence Index . Awards include the Pushcart Prize, Yaddo and MacDowell Colony fellowships, and grants from the Rhode Island and Connecticut Councils on the Arts. His current projects focus on AI’s societal impact, digital trust frameworks, and creative writing initiatives in underserved communities.
