Roukanas Spyridon

Roukanas Spyridon is a Professor at the Department of International and European Studies of the University of Piraeus, where he also serves as Vice-Chancellor for Academic and Administrative Affairs. His academic career spans multiple institutions across Greece and Cyprus, with expertise in International Political Economy and economic development in Southeastern Europe and the Eastern Mediterranean region.

Roukanas earned his undergraduate degree from the Department of International Economic Relations & Development at Democritus University of Thrace (2003), followed by a Master of Arts in International Political Economy from the University of Leeds (2004), and completed his PhD at Democritus University of Thrace (2008). His academic journey reflects a strong foundation in international economic relations that has shaped his research trajectory.

His research focuses on International Political Economy with particular emphasis on economic development in Southeastern European countries, the Eastern Mediterranean region, and emerging economies. He examines the complex relationships between these regions and the European Union, analyzes the effects of international economic crises on the contemporary global economic environment, and investigates how emerging economies are reshaping the international economic landscape.
