Ruth Wright is a Professor at the Don Wright Faculty of Music , University of Western Ontario, specializing in music education. She held leadership roles as Chair of the Department of Music Education (2009–2013) and Assistant Dean Research (2013–2015). Her research focuses on the sociology of music education, popular music pedagogy, and the inclusion of marginalized students. In 2012, she co-founded Musical Futures Canada , a program addressing equity in music education. Education : Music studies at the Royal Academy of Music, London, UK PhD in Education (2006) from the University of Wales Institute, Cardiff Research Interests center on the sociology of music education, emphasizing social justice, cultural relevance, and informal learning practices. Her work explores how sociological theories (e.g., Engeström's activity theory, Bourdieu's habitus) can transform music curricula and empower marginalized youth. Scientific Awards : Associated with the Dean's Excellence Award in Music , supporting high-achieving undergraduate students.
