Cindy Brantmeier is a Professor of Applied Linguistics and Global Studies at Washington University in St. Louis, with affiliate appointments in the Department of Romance Languages and Literatures, Department of Psychological and Brain Sciences, and the Department of Education. She holds a PhD in Applied Linguistics from Indiana University and serves as Director of Applied Linguistics, overseeing the interdisciplinary PhD program and undergraduate minor. She leads the Language Research Laboratory, conducting experiments on variables like self-assessment, personality, and cultural factors in L2 learning, with recent work integrating health literacy for linguistically diverse patients. Recent publications emphasize remote language learning during the pandemic, cross-cultural EFL strategies, and working memory in L2 reading. Her work is funded by organizations including the US State Department and the National Strategic Language Initiative.
