JOEL TRINITY is an Associate Professor in the Department of Internal Medicine at the University of Utah. He holds adjunct appointments as Adjunct Associate Professor in Nutrition & Integrative Physiology and Physical Therapy & Athletic Training. His research focuses on vascular physiology, exercise-induced adaptations, and mitochondrial dysfunction in cardiovascular and metabolic diseases. He has authored over 70 publications, with recent work emphasizing oxidative stress mechanisms, long COVID vascular impacts, and exercise interventions in disuse-related muscle atrophy. Grants : Dr. Trinity has secured 18 grants from NIH, VA, and other agencies, including major projects targeting vascular dysfunction in prediabetes and oxidative stress mitigation strategies. Notable funding includes the NIH National Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute for studies on reductive stress cardiomyopathy ( 2019-2022 ). Teaching : Supervises doctoral students in independent studies and dissertation guidance, reflecting his commitment to training the next generation of vascular physiologists. Research Themes : Combines clinical and basic science approaches to understand how exercise and pharmacological agents modulate vascular health. Key areas include: Endothelial dysfunction mechanisms in chronic diseases Exercise-induced mitochondrial adaptations Post-acute sequelae of SARS-CoV-2 infection Recent studies reveal sex differences in long COVID cardiovascular complications and demonstrate protective effects of Nrf2 activation against disuse atrophy.
