Professor Dan Liu is a world-leading scientist and Full Professor at the School of Science, RMIT University. Her research focuses on functionalized 2D nanomaterials, nanocomposites, and their applications in energy storage, water purification, and thermal management. She leads interdisciplinary projects bridging fundamental research with industry partnerships, including IMCRC-funded initiatives for nanocoating commercialization.
Her achievements include scalable methods for preparing porous nanomaterials (e.g., boron nitride, graphene) via solid-state exfoliation, advancing renewable energy and environmental solutions. Key outputs include over 170 peer-reviewed publications (e.g., Nature Communications, Advanced Materials), 10,100+ citations (h-index 52), and $6.5M in competitive grants. Awards include ARC Fellowships and the TechConnect Innovation Award.
Professor Liu has supervised 21 PhD and 3 Master’s students, mentoring future academic leaders. She holds leadership roles such as Deputy Leader of the Future Fibres Group and HDR Coordinator. Her work is highlighted in Scientific Reports (Editorial Board) and industry collaborations, with media coverage exceeding 400 outlets.
