Jeff Bednark is an Instructional Assistant Professor in the Department of Psychology at the University of Mississippi , part of the College of Liberal Arts . He specializes in cognitive neuroscience, focusing on learning, brain processes, and the sense of agency, while also exploring environmental psychology and conservation behavior. His research integrates neuroimaging techniques like fMRI and multi-voxel pattern analysis (MVPA) with educational applications. Education: B.S. in Medical Neuroscience from Westmont College (2006) Ph.D. in Neuroscience from the University of Otago (2012) Dr. Bednark’s research spans learning and agency , with a focus on motor control, visuomotor adaptation, and the neural mechanisms of voluntary action. He applies neuroimaging to study high-resolution brain activity and collaborates with education researchers to bridge cognitive neuroscience and classroom learning. His publications highlight advancements in fMRI methodologies , electrophysiological correlates of ideomotor learning , and behavioral studies on action discovery in Parkinson’s patients. Key subfields include basal ganglia dynamics , reinforcement learning , and physiological arousal in education . Dr. Bednark teaches undergraduate courses such as Introduction to Psychology , Brain and Behavior , and Environmental Psychology , and oversees the Undergraduate Internship in Psychology course.
