Li Sun is a Professor in the Department of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering at the University of Houston , and Director of the Subsea Engineering Program. With expertise in nanomaterials fabrication, spintronics, and flexible sensor development, Dr. Sun's research bridges advanced materials with biomedical and engineering applications. Ph.D., Materials Science and Engineering, Johns Hopkins University (2002) M.S., Materials Science and Engineering, Johns Hopkins University (1999) B.S., Physics, Nanjing University (1993) Research interests include multifunctional polymer composites , ferroelectric materials , and machine learning applications in materials science . Recent work focuses on stretchable sensors, magnetic hydrogels, and predictive modeling of alloy properties. Selected publications demonstrate interdisciplinary trends in electromechanical sensing , 3D-printed hydrogels , and computational materials design . These studies often integrate nanomaterials with biomedical or industrial engineering solutions. Bill D. Cook Faculty Scholars Endowment (2003-2008) NSF Fellowships (Summer Institute at Northwestern, US-Japan Nanotechnology Exchange) NSF MRSEC Postdoctoral Fellowship (2002-2003) Labs & Facilities : Leads the Advanced Functional Materials Laboratory , equipped with electrochemical fabrication systems, sputtering deposition tools, and nanocomposite characterization equipment. Collaborates with the Materials Research Society and American Chemical Society.
