He has pioneered a paradigm shift in antimicrobial treatment, moving away from traditional bacteria-killing strategies toward approaches that disarm pathogens by targeting non-essential phenotypes like bacterial adhesion and signaling mechanisms ($$c\text{-}di\text{-}GMP$$ signaling and quorum sensing), which avoids creating strong selection pressure for resistance development. His research combines molecular infectious biology with chemistry to identify novel anti-biofilm compounds. His recent publications demonstrate a strong focus on Pseudomonas aeruginosa biofilms, $$c\text{-}di\text{-}GMP$$ signaling modulation, and the development of Disperazol, a promising anti-biofilm compound. His work spans fundamental biofilm biology, chemical genetics approaches for identifying bioactive molecules, and translational research moving toward clinical applications.
