Dr. Florian Betz is a Researcher in the Department of Remote Sensing at the Institute of Geography and Geology , University of Würzburg. He leads the Earth Observation Research Cluster as Principal Investigator since 2024, focusing on satellite-based environmental monitoring. Education: M.Sc. in Environmental Processes and Natural Hazards, Katholische Universität Eichstätt-Ingolstadt (2011-2014) B.Sc. in Physical Geography, Katholische Universität Eichstätt-Ingolstadt (2007-2011) Ph.D. in Biogeomorphology from Space, Katholische Universität Eichstätt-Ingolstadt (2021) His research integrates remote sensing , GIS-based modeling , time series analysis , and machine learning to study biogeomorphology , interdisciplinary river science , ecosystem services , and social-ecological systems . Key application areas include desert riparian forests in China, hydropower impacts in Kyrgyzstan, and solar energy feasibility in Central Asia. Recent publications (2015-2024) demonstrate his work in spatiotemporal environmental analysis , floodplain delineation , and climate change mitigation using remote sensing. Despite no explicit awards listed, his career spans diverse projects including DFG-funded research, EU Floodplain Institute collaboration, and Stanford University visiting scholarship. He contributes to interdisciplinary research teams at the University of Würzburg's Earth Observation Research Cluster, previously working in Eichstätt-Ingolstadt's Applied Physical Geography and Trier University's Geobotany divisions. Current work focuses on data-scarce region solutions and sustainable development in arid ecosystems.
