Tina van de Flierdt is a Professor of Isotope Geochemistry and Head of the Department of Earth Science and Engineering at Imperial College London, UK. She leads the MAGIC isotope facility and co-directs the international SWAIS 2C project focused on Antarctic ice sheet stability. Her academic journey includes a Diploma in Geology from the University of Bonn (1993–2000) and a PhD in Natural Sciences from ETH Zurich (2000–2003). Prior roles include positions at Lamont-Doherty Earth Observatory (Columbia University) and Imperial College London, where she progressed from Lecturer (2007) to Reader (2014) and eventually Professor (2017). Her research focuses on chemical cycles in oceans, paleoclimatology, and Antarctic ice sheet dynamics, particularly its vulnerability to climate change. Key projects include GEOTRACES (global ocean geochemical mapping) and studies on the East Antarctic Ice Sheet’s historical stability. She co-leads the SWAIS 2C initiative exploring sea-level rise implications under +2°C warming. Her work integrates field studies, isotope geochemistry, and climate modeling. Recent publications (2023–2025) highlight advancements in Antarctic sediment tracing, neodymium isotope modeling, and anthropogenic pollutant dynamics in the South Atlantic. She collaborates widely, including with the Grantham Institute for Climate Research.
