Professor Graham Niblo is a leading academic in geometric group theory and non-commutative geometry at the University of Southampton , where he has served as Head of Pure Mathematics (2007-2011) and Head of Mathematical Sciences (2012-2015). His research bridges geometry, topology, and analysis, focusing on the large-scale geometry of non-positively curved spaces. Education : BSc (Hons) Pure Mathematics, University of Reading (1981) MSc Mathematics (Distinction), University of London (1985) PhD, University of Liverpool (1988) His work explores coarse geometry , CAT(0) cube complexes , and Langlands duality , with applications in cryptography and pure mathematics. Recent publications include studies on Property A, coarse median algebras, and K-theory of affine Weyl groups. Scientific awards : Leverhulme Research Fellow (2011) Fellow of the Institute of Mathematics and its Applications (2012) SERC Postdoctoral Fellowship (1988) He supervises PhD students (e.g., Dominic Charles Majda) and leads the National Cipher Challenge , a mathematics outreach program. External roles include chairing the EPSRC Mathematical Sciences Strategic Advisory Team (2018-2020) and serving on the EPSRC Science and Engineering Technology Board (2021-2025).
