Dr. Sylviane Déderix is a researcher specializing in Aegean and Minoan archaeology, affiliated with the Department of Aegean and Textile Archaeology. She is currently a Stanisław Ulam programme grantee with the Polish National Agency for Academic Exchange (NAWA) for 2024–2026. Her work bridges archaeological field projects with computational methods, focusing on visibility analysis, burial practices, and metallurgical traditions in Bronze Age Crete. Research Interests : Aegean archaeology, burial practices, landscape archaeology, geomatics, metallurgical practices, visibility analysis, prehistoric Crete Projects : Director of the Minoan burial practices at Malia project (École française d'Athènes); Director of the prehistoric team at Thorikos Archaeological Research Project; Member of the Sissi Archaeological Research Project Methodology : Utilizes geomatics, hierarchical communication networks, and diachronic approaches Her recent publications analyze Minoan funerary architecture, collective burials, and metallurgical districts, with keywords spanning Bronze Age archaeology, geospatial technologies, and social negotiation. She has contributed to interdisciplinary studies on collective burial practices and organized workshops addressing gender in archaeology. In her 2024–2026 Stanisław Ulam grant, she will advance research on multi-scalar metallurgical practices in the Aegean. Her work integrates fieldwork with digital humanities, emphasizing spatial analysis and material culture studies.
