Abdallah Alaoui serves as a Principal Investigator in Soil Science at the University of Bern's Institute of Geography. His research integrates classical pedology with soil physics and hydrology to understand soil heterogeneity across spatial and temporal scales. Key research areas: Land Use and Soil Management : Impact of land cover on soil structure, soil functions in ecosystems, and modeling land use/climate change effects. Soil Hydrology : Up-scaling hydrological processes, climate change impacts, flood modeling, and water balance. Soil Physics and Mechanics : Macropore flow, soil compaction, soil-plant-water interactions, and soil protection strategies. His recent publications (2017-2022) center on soil quality assessment frameworks, sustainable cropping systems, and soil compaction mitigation. These works often emerge from European collaborative projects, emphasizing practical applications for agricultural sustainability and environmental resilience. Alaoui has been principal investigator or key contributor to major H2020 projects including iSQAPER (2015-2020), SoilCare (2016-2021), SPRINT (2020-2025), and MINAGRIS (2020-2025). These projects involve multi-institutional teams across Europe, addressing critical issues such as soil quality, pesticide impacts, and microplastics in agricultural soils.
