Daniel Varón Silva

Daniel Varón Silva is Professor of Organic Chemistry at FHNW's School of Life Sciences, leading the Organic and Bioorganic Chemistry team. His research focuses on designing and synthesizing natural product derivatives and biomolecules for medical applications, particularly glycosylphosphatidylinositol (GPI) anchors and glycan-based diagnostics.

Research includes:

• Chemical synthesis of GPI anchors and glycolipids
• Development of glycan-based diagnostic tools
• Structural analysis of membrane-anchored proteins
• Applications in parasitology and infectious diseases

He teaches foundational and advanced courses in organic chemistry, chemical biology and glycobiology. Recent work develops synthetic GPI fragments for detecting Trypanosoma and Toxoplasma infections.
