Su Chern Foo is a Senior Lecturer at the School of Science, Monash University Malaysia, specializing in microalgae biotechnology and sustainable bioprocessing. Their research focuses on valorizing microalgae for nutraceuticals, bioremediation, and carbon sequestration, aligning with UN SDG 2 and 13. They teach BIO3810 (Tropical Aquatic Biology) and SCI1800 (Environmental Sustainability). Education: PhD in Aquatic Biotechnology (Universiti Putra Malaysia, 2017), BSc Biology (2011, same institution). Research interests include microalgae cultivation optimization, bioactive compound extraction, and climate change mitigation strategies. Notable projects include CO2 capture via microalgae, heterotrophic cultivation of Euglena, and marine carotenoid stabilization. Their work bridges academia and industry, addressing sustainability challenges. Awards include 2023 PVC's Excellence in Education & Research (Early Career), Dean’s Innovation Award, and ECWW GOLD (2021). Supervision focuses on self-driven students in microalgae bioprocessing and biotechnology. Active grants include AI-driven CO2 monitoring in photobioreactors (Microsoft-funded) and foam flotation for algae harvesting. Labs/Teams: Collaborates with institutions like Universiti Putra Malaysia and industry partners on microalgae-based solutions. Current lab activities emphasize microencapsulation technologies and climate-resilient cultivation systems.
