Xumeng Chen is an Adjunct Research Fellow at the School of Chemical Engineering, University of Queensland. He holds a PhD from the JKMRC (2015), with research focusing on mineral processing technologies, particularly in flotation optimization, ultrafine grinding, and plant pulp chemistry. His work addresses challenges in mineral separation, clay mineral management, and flotation reagent development. He has led plant surveys and process optimizations in over 20 facilities across Australia and South America.
Research interests include cleaner flotation circuits, novel reagent applications, and online chemistry monitoring. He received the Advance Queensland Research Fellowship (2017) for developing new flotation chemistries. His studies often integrate particle breakage mechanisms, mineral surface chemistry, and froth stability to enhance industrial efficiency.
Key contributions include strategies to optimize regrind conditions for Cu/Au flotation and technologies to mitigate clay mineral interference in coal flotation. His work bridges laboratory research with industrial implementation, emphasizing practical solutions for low-grade and oxidized ore processing.
