Dr Wonder Chimonyo is a Postdoctoral Research Fellow at the School of Chemical Engineering, The University of Queensland (UQ), focusing on sustainable mineral processing technologies. He obtained his PhD in 2021 from UQ's School of Chemical Engineering, where his research addressed green economy transitions through biopolymer modification for mineral flotation. Since 2021, he has worked in the ARC Centre of Excellence for Enabling Eco-Efficient Beneficiation of Minerals (COEMinerals), a collaborative network of nine Australian universities and international partners developing energy-water-efficient mineral separation technologies.
His research interests include:
- Flotation reagent development
- Surface/colloidal/electrochemistry in mineral processing
- Biopolymer modification
- Hydrodynamic modeling of flotation cells
- Entrainment/entrainment management
Wonder's work emphasizes sustainable strategies for the minerals industry, particularly in rejecting carbon gangue and iron sulphide minerals. His recent publications focus on:
- Reflux Flotation Cell (RFC™) optimization
- Novel RAFT polymers for iron ore processing
- Clay gangue management in flotation
- Biopolymer adsorption mechanisms
- Saline water flotation challenges
He is actively contributing to Australia's 'green economy' goals through biocompatible mineral processing technologies.
