Ersilia Verlinghieri is a Senior Research Fellow at the Active Travel Academy, University of Westminster, and a Research Affiliate at the Transport Studies Unit, University of Oxford. Her research focuses on transport governance, social and environmental justice in low-carbon mobility transitions, participatory planning, and participatory methodologies. She leads a NIHR-funded project evaluating Low Traffic Neighbourhoods’ impacts in London and has contributed to over 30 academic publications. Her work spans three core themes: (1) distributive and procedural justice in transport interventions, (2) epistemic justice and decolonizing transport studies, and (3) reimagining transport planning through grassroots movements. She advocates for ethics of care in research and teaching, emphasizing participatory approaches to address ecological and social crises. Ersilia has advised on cargo bike sector labor conditions, transport decarbonization governance, and participatory health impact assessments. She collaborates with initiatives like the Common_Access project and the Car-Free Megacities campaign.
