Dr. Sergio Baauw is an Assistant Professor of Spanish at Utrecht University, affiliated with the Institute for Language Sciences. His research investigates first language acquisition, multilingual development, and theoretical linguistics through comparative Spanish-Dutch frameworks. Since 2009, he has led European projects like EDINA (Erasmus+) addressing newcomer integration in education systems. Baauw teaches courses in language acquisition, Spanish syntax/morphology, and intercultural communication across bachelor’s and master’s programs. He previously coordinated the Multilingualism and Language Acquisition master’s program and currently directs the BA in Spanish Language and Culture. As a tutor for Language and Cultural Studies, he advises on modern languages curricula.
