Ngan Tran

Ngan Tran is a Wellcome Trust Research Fellow at Queen’s University Belfast’s Centre for Public Health within the School of Medicine, Dentistry and Biomedical Sciences. Her research focuses on cancer care, financial toxicity, public health, and global health equity. She holds a PhD from Queen’s University Belfast (2022), supervised by Prof. O’Neill and Prof. Donnelly.

Her work addresses critical issues such as financial burdens on cancer patients, disparities in green space access and health outcomes, and improving psychosocial care for cancer caregivers in Vietnam. Tran has led and contributed to major projects like the GIFT initiative studying financial toxicity in the UK and co-designed psychosocial training programs for cancer care professionals in Vietnam.

Tran’s research spans oncology, health economics, and environmental health. Key themes include comparative studies of cancer care systems, economic evaluations of urban interventions, and strengthening healthcare policies in low-resource settings. Her 2025 studies highlight cross-country analyses of financial toxicity impacts and urban green space inequities linked to preventable deaths.

Tran has received prestigious awards including the Wellcome Early-Career Award (2023) and the Erasmus Mundus Scholarship (2013). She serves on editorial boards for BMC Women’s Health and Scientific Reports, and actively presents at global conferences like the World Cancer Congress.

Her grants include funding for projects on financial toxicity in the UK and Vietnam, and enhancing health economics research capacity. Tran collaborates internationally, with recent work involving institutions in Vietnam, Malaysia, and the US. She leads the Centre for Public Health’s initiatives on global health equity and healthcare policy.
