Stephanie von Hinke is a Professor of Economics at the University of Bristol and a former part-time Professor of Health Economics at Erasmus University Rotterdam. She holds research fellowships at the Tinbergen Institute, Institute for Fiscal Studies (IFS), and IZA. Her research focuses on health economics, genetics, and applied econometrics, particularly exploring the interplay between nature and nurture in health and educational outcomes.
Education: PhD in Economics (University of Bristol, 2009), MSc in Health Economics (University of York, 2004), MSc in Health Policy and Management (Erasmus University Rotterdam, 2002).
Research Interests: Genetics, early life environments, parental investments, public policy, and the application of genetic data in social science. Her ERC-funded work investigates how genetic and environmental factors interact to shape health and well-being across the life course.
Grants & Awards: Includes an ERC Starting Grant (€1.5M), Marie Skłodowska-Curie Doctoral Network (€2.8M), and fellowships from MRC and ESRC. Her work has been featured in high-impact journals like PNAS and Nature Communications.
Teaching: Leads Health Economics courses at the University of Bristol and supervises doctoral students through the European Social Science Genetics Network. She also contributes to training programs in genetic methods for social scientists.
Labs & Networks: Involved in interdisciplinary collaborations through the ERC DONNI project and the Tinbergen Institute. Active in policy discussions on food environments, school meal policies, and genetic literacy.
