Dr. Alexandra Chung is a Senior Lecturer and Research Fellow in the Department of Nutrition, Dietetics and Food at Monash University’s Faculty of Medicine, Nursing and Health Sciences. She holds a VicHealth Postdoctoral Research Fellowship and is an Accredited Practising Dietitian with extensive experience in public health nutrition. Education: Doctor of Philosophy, Monash University Master of Public Health, Monash University Bachelor of Nutrition and Dietetics, Monash University Her research focuses on childhood obesity prevention, health equity, and public health policy, particularly around food marketing targeting children and parents. She investigates socioeconomic determinants of health and strategies to improve children's diets through policy. Her work contributes to the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals, especially those related to health and equity. Recent research publications highlight trends in digital food marketing, infant and toddler nutrition, co-parenting models in obesity prevention, and community engagement in food policymaking. Her work combines qualitative and quantitative methods to inform equitable public health interventions. She serves as a Primary Chief Investigator on key research projects, including the VicHealth Harmful Industries Monitoring Hub and a study on unhealthy product advertising in the City of Melbourne. Her media engagement includes contributions to Channel 7 News, Sydney Morning Herald, and public blogs on infant nutrition and misleading food marketing. She collaborates with interdisciplinary teams and institutions, advocating for evidence-based policy to address nutritional inequities and improve child health outcomes.
