Sinan Antoon is an Associate Professor at New York University's Gallatin School of Individualized Study. He holds a B.A. in English from the University of Baghdad (1990), an M.A.A.S. in Contemporary Arab Studies from Georgetown University (1995), and a Ph.D. in Arabic and Islamic Studies from Harvard University (2006). His interdisciplinary work spans poetry, fiction, translation, and scholarship, with a focus on Iraqi and Arab cultural production under conflict and displacement. His acclaimed novels include The Corpse Washer (2013) and Postcards from the Underworld (2023), while his translations of Mahmoud Darwish and Saadi Youssef have earned international recognition. He has been a fellow at the Wissenschaftskolleg zu Berlin (2009) and the American Academy in Berlin (2013). His articles analyze themes such as the impact of war on cultural heritage, diasporic identities, and the ethics of representation. Awards include the Saif Ghobash Banipal Prize for Translation (2014) and the Arab American Book Prize (2013).
