Dr. Katharina Voß is a researcher at the Institute of Animal Breeding and Husbandry at Kiel University, working within Prof. Dr. Georg Thaller's scientific team. Her role focuses on Behavioral Informatics in Livestock Husbandry and Animal Breeding and Pet Genetics, contributing to the institute's core mission of advancing sustainable and ethical animal agriculture practices through data-driven methodologies. Her research spans critical domains including genetic selection techniques, behavioral pattern analysis in farm animals, and the development of precision farming technologies. She plays a key role in the AniFair software ecosystem—designed to objectively assess animal welfare conditions—and integrates computational approaches to optimize breeding protocols while addressing ethical considerations in livestock management. Her work bridges theoretical genetics with practical farm applications, emphasizing transparency in animal husbandry systems. Dr. Voß actively collaborates with major research networks including the German Society for Breeding Science (DGFZ) and the FoCus competence network "Food Chain Plus," while supporting the institute's Milk Competence Center initiatives. She contributes to experimental farm operations at Karkendamm and participates in marine aquaculture research through the Bioeconomy at Marine Sites (BaMS) framework, demonstrating commitment to interdisciplinary solutions for modern agricultural challenges.
