Alma Steingart is an Assistant Professor at Columbia University, with expertise at the intersection of politics, mathematical rationalities, and modernist intellectual thought. Education: B.A. from Columbia University (2006) Ph.D. from Massachusetts Institute of Technology (2013) Her research explores how mathematical reasoning and computational technologies have shaped American electoral politics (1920–present) and influenced mid-century modernist aesthetics and intellectual discourse. Current projects include the manuscript Accountable Democracy: Mathematical Reasoning and Representative Democracy in America, 1920 to Now and the book Pure Abstraction: Mathematical Thought and High Modernism , forthcoming from University of Chicago Press. Steingart’s recent publications reveal a focus on computational politics, axiomatic reasoning, and the epistemology of mathematical practices. Notable themes include redistricting, geometrical analysis, election forecasting, and the cultural implications of mathematical abstraction.
