Jay Van Bavel is a Professor of Psychology and Neural Science at New York University (NYU), affiliated with the Stern School of Business in Management and Organizations. He is the Director of the Social Identity & Morality Lab and co-author of *The Power of Us*, exploring how shared identities enhance cooperation and social harmony. His research spans social psychology, neuroscience, and computational social science, focusing on how social identities and morality shape cognition, behavior, and neural processes.
Van Bavel holds a BA from the University of Alberta, a PhD from the University of Toronto, and completed a postdoctoral fellowship at The Ohio State University. His work addresses issues such as group dynamics, intergroup bias, social media's societal impact, and public health during crises like the pandemic. He has advised global institutions including the WHO and UN, and his research features in high-impact journals and media outlets like *Science*, *Nature*, and TED-Ed.
Key awards include the Society for Social Neuroscience's Young Investigator Award, the APA William James Book Award, and multiple grants from NSF, Russell Sage Foundation, and Templeton World Charity.
