Dr. Adelheid Krah is a Senior Lecturer in Medieval History and Digital Humanities at the Institute of History, University of Vienna , where she has held academic positions since 2002. Her work bridges traditional historical research with digital archival methodologies. Academic Focus : Networking archival sources across Central Europe, women's/gender history of the Early Middle Ages, German/French constitutional history, Baltic Sea region studies Key Projects : Digital edition of Freisinger Amtsbücher, ICARUS network leadership, BLO platform development Her research explores pragmatic literacy in medieval archival practices , focusing on Freising's distant possessions, hagiography, and socio-economic structures. She has pioneered digital indexing of medieval manuscripts while maintaining rigorous historiographical standards. Recent publications analyze 10th-14th century censuales records (2024) and Carolingian marriage trials (2025). Her 2023 book Unter dem Schutz der hl. Maria examines medieval women's agricultural labor and protection money systems. Awards : Excellence Scholarship for Women (1993-1998) UNESCO Fellowship (2000) ICARUS Executive Board Member (2010-present) Grants : DFG Projekt "Urkundenlandschaft" (2007-2009) As principal editor of the Freising Manuscripts Project , she oversees digital editions of the Cozroh Codex and Libri Censuales. Her lab collaborates with Bavarian State Archives, Bavarikon, and Sorbonne University.
