Dr. Grace Dibben is a Research Associate working within General Practice and Primary Care at the School of Health and Wellbeing, University of Glasgow. She serves as a statistician for the cardiac rehabilitation Cochrane review centre and provides research support across multiple projects focused on physical activity, cardiac rehabilitation, and multimorbidity. Her educational background includes: BSc in Mathematics and Sport and Exercise Sciences from the University of Chester MSc in Cardiovascular Rehabilitation from the University of Chester PhD in Medical Studies from the University of Exeter, where she investigated the effect of cardiac rehabilitation on physical activity levels of patients with heart failure Dr. Dibben's research interests span systematic reviews and meta-analyses, quantitative research methods, physical activity and health, physical activity measurement methods using accelerometry, cardiac rehabilitation, multiple long-term conditions, lifestyle behavior change, and randomized controlled trials. Her expertise particularly shines through in developing improved methods to measure physical activity intensity using accelerometers in clinical populations, especially heart failure patients. She has made significant methodological contributions to research design and measurement standards in physical activity research. Her recent publications demonstrate a strong focus on cardiac rehabilitation, physical activity measurement, and multimorbidity. She has contributed extensively to systematic reviews and meta-analyses on exercise-based interventions across various conditions through the Cochrane review centre. Her work often addresses how to improve cardiac rehabilitation programs, how to better measure their effectiveness, and how to extend evidence-based approaches to people with multiple long-term conditions. Dr. Dibben is actively involved in several major research initiatives including developing SPIRIT, CONSORT and STROBE extensions for accelerometry reporting guidance, the PERFORM research programme on personalized exercise-rehabilitation for people with multiple long-term conditions funded by NIHR, and the GLOBAL-DATA-MATCH international collaboration examining exercise-based cardiac rehabilitation across cardiovascular disease populations. She has supervised students including Hussein, Hadeel Sayed Ahmed, and has been involved in grant-funded research such as 'Handling multiple outcomes in Randomized Controlled trials' and 'Cost-effectiveness analysis of health protection interventions for Inclusion Health populations' funded by the UK Health Security Agency (2024-2025). Dr. Dibben is experienced in quantitative research methods, using accelerometry to measure physical activity, cardiac rehabilitation and systematic reviews and meta-analysis, with a track record of international presentations including at the ACSM Annual Meeting in Orlando, USA (2019).
