Brent Murray is Professor in Ecosystem Science and Management at the University of Northern British Columbia, with cross-appointments in Biochemistry & Molecular Biology and Biology programs. His research examines genetic information in wildlife to understand ecological and evolutionary processes. Education: PhD, Biology, McMaster University MSc, Zoology, University of Alberta BSc, Genetics, University of Alberta Research integrates molecular techniques including DNA barcoding, environmental DNA analysis, and population genomics to study biodiversity conservation, wildlife ecology, and forest pest management. Current projects focus on mountain pine beetle genomics, amphibian landscape ecology, and songbird migration mapping. Publications demonstrate expertise in spatial genetic analysis of forest insect outbreaks and major histocompatibility complex variation in endangered species. Recent work applies genomic approaches to understand species adaptation and dispersal. Teaches courses in Genetics (BIOL 210), Molecular Evolution and Ecology (BIOL 423/623), and Applied Molecular Genetics (BIOL 425/625).
