Hiba Baroud is an Associate Professor and Associate Chair in the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering at Vanderbilt University, with secondary appointments in Computer Science and Earth and Environmental Science. She serves as the Interim Director of the Vanderbilt Center for Sustainability, Energy, and Climate. Her research focuses on data analytics, risk analysis, and resilience modeling of critical infrastructure systems, particularly in disaster management and climate adaptation. She explores interdependencies between infrastructure, environmental, and social systems to enhance preparedness and recovery strategies. Baroud holds a Ph.D. in Industrial and Systems Engineering from the University of Oklahoma, an M.Math in Statistics from the University of Waterloo, and a B.S. in Actuarial Science from Notre Dame University, Lebanon. She has received prestigious awards, including the NSF CAREER Award (2020), the Chauncey Starr Distinguished Young Risk Analyst Award (2024), and recognition as a Fellow of the International Science Council (2024). Her work addresses global challenges such as Arctic shipping risks, climate financing for infrastructure, and community resilience in vulnerable regions like Bangladesh and Sri Lanka. She collaborates internationally and engages in interdisciplinary initiatives, including the Global Young Academy and the Vanderbilt Data Science Institute.
