Sharon J. Paul is a Professor at the University of Oregon's School of Music and Dance, serving as Department Head of Music Performance and Director of Choral Activities. She teaches graduate courses in choral conducting, repertoire, and pedagogy while leading the internationally acclaimed Chamber Choir. DMA (Choral Conducting, Stanford University, 1984) MFA (Conducting, University of California, Los Angeles, 1981) BA (Music, Pomona College, 1978) Her research focuses on Music Performance , Vocal Performance , and Choral Conducting , integrating neuroscience into rehearsal strategies. Her book Art & Science in the Choral Rehearsal (Oxford University Press, 2020) explores brain-based teaching methods. The Chamber Choir's achievements include five international competition wins (2011-2024) and tours in Spain, Estonia, and Sweden. Their discography spans 1996-2018 with recordings like Homeward: Chamber Choir Live! and Music From The Venetian Ospedali . Scientific Awards Oxford University Press publication (2020) Oregon ACDA Podium Award (2019) University of Oregon Fund for Faculty Excellence Award (2014) As a clinician and conductor, she has presented at global conferences and led collaborations with the Oregon Bach Festival, ACFEA, and the Order of St. James in Spain.
