Jie Hou, Ph.D., is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Computer Science at Saint Louis University, part of the School of Science and Engineering. His research focuses on developing machine learning and computational methods for bioinformatics applications, including protein structure prediction and omics data analysis. He holds a Ph.D. in Computer Science (2019) and M.A. in Statistics (2014) from the University of Missouri-Columbia, and a B.S. in Mathematics from Shanghai Maritime University (2012). Dr. Hou teaches courses such as Machine Learning (CSCI 4750/5750) and Algorithms in Computational Biology (BCB 5300). His work bridges computer science and biology, with an emphasis on data-driven solutions for challenges in structural biology and genomic analysis. He has published extensively on topics like cryo-EM modeling, protein function prediction, and adversarial machine learning techniques. His research interests include machine learning applications, data mining for bioinformatics, and computational optimization. He maintains an active presence in academic conferences and contributes to open-source tools for bioinformatics analysis.
