Demetzos Costas

Professor Demetzos Costas is a leading academic in Pharmaceutical Nanotechnology at the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens, serving as Director of the Laboratory of Pharmaceutical Technology in the School of Health Sciences. He holds a Ph.D. from the same institution and completed postdoctoral training at the University of California, San Francisco. His research focuses on advanced drug delivery systems, lipid nanoparticles, and thermal analysis, with significant contributions to nanomedicine and pharmaceutical technology. He teaches undergraduate and graduate courses including 'Pharmaceutical Nanotechnology' and 'Precise Nanomedicine'.

Professor Demetzos has authored over 250 publications and 400 presentations, with an h-index of 46. His work includes pioneering studies on liposome design, dendrimer applications, and thermal characterization of drug delivery systems. He received the 2018 Academy of Athens Award for innovative contributions to pharmaceutical nanotechnology. He actively collaborates with international partners and leads the Demetzos Lab, which develops nanoscale drug delivery systems for clinical applications.

He serves as President of the Hellenic Pharmaceutical Society and on the Executive Committee of EUFEPS. His lab’s research spans liposomal vaccines, lyotropic liquid crystals, and exosome-mimetic nanoparticles. Recent achievements include Fulbright scholarships for his students and Rigaku-ICTAC awards for research contributions.
