Dr. Seungpyo Hong is the Milton J. Henrichs Endowed Chair Professor in the Pharmaceutical Sciences Division and Director of the Wisconsin Center for NanoBioSystems (WisCNano) at the University of Wisconsin-Madison's School of Pharmacy. He holds adjunct appointments at the University of Illinois at Chicago and Yonsei University, and serves as Associate Editor for Nanomedicine: Nanotechnology, Biology and Medicine. He co-founded Capio Biosciences, where he serves as President.
Dr. Hong received his B.S. (1999) and M.S. (2001) in Polymer Engineering from Hanyang University, followed by a Ph.D. in Macromolecular Science and Engineering from the University of Michigan (2006). He completed postdoctoral training at MIT under Professor Robert Langer.
His research specializes in biomimetic nanotechnology for cancer applications, focusing on:
- Novel nanocarrier platforms including dendritic nanoparticles and dendrimer-exosome hybrids for enhanced drug delivery
- Liquid biopsy technologies for highly sensitive capture of circulating tumor cells and exosomes
- Fundamental studies of nano-bio interactions and nanoparticle-tissue penetration mechanisms
He has secured over $30 million in research funding for active projects including:
- Highly Efficient Capture of Circulating Tumor Cells
- Novel Nanocarrier Platforms Using Multivalent Targeting
- Developing a Fundamental Understanding of Nano-Bio Interactions
- Dendritic Nanoparticles for Enhanced Cancer Immunotherapy
He directs the Hong Research Group and Wisconsin Center for NanoBioSystems (WisCNano), fostering interdisciplinary collaboration in nanotechnology and biomedical engineering.
