Joel Busher is a Professor of Political Sociology at Coventry University's Research Centre for Peace and Social Relations. His research focuses on far-right activism, political violence, counter-terrorism, and the societal impacts of security policies. He holds a PhD in Development Studies from the University of East Anglia and an MA in Philosophy and Italian from the University of Edinburgh. Busher has led numerous funded projects, including studies on anti-minority activism funded by CREST and evaluations of Prevent duty implementation in schools. He is an award-winning scholar, having received the Philip Abrams Memorial Prize (2016) and the Skirving Prize for Philosophy (2003). His work bridges academia and policy, engaging with international practitioner networks. Busher serves on the advisory board for DRIVE: Far Right and Islamist Extremism in North-Western Europe, and as an external examiner at the University of St Andrews. His research emphasizes understanding the micro-social processes underlying mobilization and social control, with a focus on how everyday lives intersect with collective action.
