Prof. Olaf Reimers is a distinguished Baroque cellist and educator currently affiliated with the Bremen University of the Arts , where he has taught since 2022. He also holds a professorship at the Franz Liszt Academy of Music in Weimar since 2018. Reimers gained international acclaim as a solo cellist with Sir John Eliot Gardiner's English Baroque Soloists until 2014 and as a long-standing continuo cellist in renowned early music ensembles such as La Stravaganza Cologne , La Risonanza , and Orchestre Révolutionnaire et Romantique . Reimers studied in Freiburg, London, Düsseldorf, Cologne, and The Hague, mentored by luminaries like Nikolaus Harnoncourt, Siegfried Palm, and Anner Bylsma. He has conducted courses and masterclasses globally, including at the Royal College of Music and Drama Studio Berlin . His research interests revolve around historical performance practice, focusing on low strings and the intersection of Baroque and 19th-century orchestral traditions. His teaching emphasizes the use of historical sources to inform practical performance techniques.
