Dr. Gary Uzonyi is an Associate Professor in the Department of Government & Public Policy at the University of Strathclyde, UK. He holds dual appointments as Senior Lecturer and Associate Professor, and serves as President of the American Political Science Association's Human Rights Section. Previously at the University of Tennessee-Knoxville, he relocated to Strathclyde in 2024. He earned his PhD in Political Science from the University of Michigan in 2013. His research focuses on how uncertainty shapes domestic and international political violence, including government strategies during civil wars, mass atrocities, and international intervention responses. Key areas include genocide/politicide dynamics, civil war geography, and UN peacekeeping efficacy. He has led projects such as the 'Rural vs. Urban Insurgencies Data Collection' and 'Foreign Powers and Civilian Victimization during Civil War.' Dr. Uzonyi has authored over 58 peer-reviewed articles in journals like Journal of Peace Research and Political Studies , and has received 27 academic awards, including the 1794 Scholars Selection (2019 and 2020). His work contributes to UN Sustainable Development Goals addressing peace, justice, and strong institutions.
