Prof. Klaus Elenius is a Professor of Medical Biochemistry and Scientific Director of BioCity Turku at the University of Turku and Åbo Akademi University. His lab has studied growth factor signaling in cancer for over 30 years, focusing on identifying novel signaling molecules and developing predictive/therapeutic tools for cancer and inflammatory diseases. He has conducted postdoctoral research at Harvard Medical School and co-founded Abomics Ltd to apply technology solutions in medical practice. His translational work includes clinical trial participation and collaborations with pharmaceutical companies. Affiliations: University of Turku (Medical Biochemistry), Åbo Akademi University, BioCity Turku. Board roles: Research Council of Finland, Cancer Foundation Finland, Finnish Medical Foundation, Biocenter Finland. Award: Distinguished Innovator by the Novo Nordisk Foundation Initiative. Research emphasizes ERBB receptor signaling (e.g., ERBB3/4 mutations), therapeutic resistance mechanisms, and genomic risk assessment. His lab pioneered tools like DORM for mutation analysis and contributed to understanding HER2+ breast cancer pathways. Recent work integrates multi-omics approaches to infer signaling pathways and improve cancer screening strategies. Grants and collaborations include pharmaceutical partnerships for targeted therapies. The Elenius Lab also explores cardiomyocyte growth mechanisms via NRG1/ERBB4-STAT5b pathways and investigates sleep’s impact on infectious disease severity. BioCity Turku coordination highlights his role in fostering translational research ecosystems.
