Dr. Melvin Teck Meng Chin is a clinical academic medical oncologist at the University of New South Wales, Faculty of Medicine, specializing in lung cancer, melanoma, and gastrointestinal cancers. He serves as the chair of the South-Eastern Sydney Local Health District Human Research Ethics Committee and previously served as Head of Department-Medical Oncology at the Prince of Wales Hospital from 2015-2018. Dr. Chin teaches UNSW medical students and is actively involved in numerous clinical trials and health services research initiatives. Dr. Chin's educational background includes BSc(Med), MB BS, MHM, CHM, AFCHSM, and FRACP qualifications. His research focuses on improving cancer care delivery, particularly for culturally and linguistically diverse populations, and implementing shared care models for cancer survivors. His research interests center on cancer implementation science, with particular emphasis on culturally and linguistically diverse (CALD) populations, shared care models, and clinical trials in melanoma, lung cancer, and colorectal cancer. Dr. Chin employs mixed methods approaches, combining quantitative clinical trial data with qualitative insights into patient experiences and healthcare system challenges. His work often bridges the gap between clinical practice and health services research, aiming to translate evidence into improved patient outcomes. Dr. Chin's research portfolio demonstrates consistent focus on enhancing cancer care quality and accessibility, with particular attention to vulnerable populations. His work spans clinical trials of novel therapeutics, implementation of shared care models, and patient safety initiatives for diverse populations. The evolution of his research shows increasing sophistication in methodology and growing emphasis on equity in cancer care. His research collaborations span multiple institutions including Prince of Wales Hospital, St George Hospitals, and Scientia Clinical Research. Dr. Chin supervises UNSW medical students in Independent Learning Projects, focusing on various aspects of cancer care and health services research.
