Univ.-Prof. Dr. Gabriel Kogler holds the § 98 UG Professorship in Austrian and European Civil Law at the Institute for Civil Law, Faculty of Law, University of Vienna since October 2022. Previously, he served as a tenure-track Assistant Professor (2019-2022) and university assistant at the same institution after completing his legal education and practical training. His academic credentials include a law degree (2004), legal internship, two years as a trainee attorney, and research at the Max Planck Institute for Comparative and International Private Law in Hamburg (2018). He completed his habilitation in 2021 with the thesis "Comparison and Recognition," earning prestigious awards including the VKB Science Prize and Gustav Figdor Prize. His research focuses on fundamental dogmatic analysis in civil law, emphasizing law of obligations, property law, and inheritance law with critical attention to civil procedure interfaces, European/international dimensions, and digital transformation impacts. Professor Kogler's teaching excellence is evidenced by consecutive Student Teaching Awards (2024-2025) for exam preparation. He supervises doctoral dissertations requiring above-average civil law performance and detailed research proposals, while teaching core courses including Civil Law lectures, exercises, seminars, and specialized instruction in inheritance law and private international law.
