Dr. Jessica Ganao serves as Associate Professor and Chair of the Department of Criminal Justice at North Carolina Central University, leading the institution's largest academic department for 18 years. As the first female alumna to hold this position, she oversees undergraduate and graduate programs while championing the "Learn where you are!" initiative through HyFlex course delivery. Her educational background includes a Ph.D. in Interdisciplinary Social Science/Criminal Justice from Michigan State University (2003), an M.S. in Criminal Justice from NCCU (1996), and a B.A. in Political Science from The College of Charleston (1992).

Current work emphasizes educational accessibility through open educational resources and HyFlex innovation to improve affordability and enrollment in criminal justice programs.
Dr. Ganao secured CDC-sponsored funding from the UNC Injury Center for research on cultural cues in sexual assault reporting. She teaches core courses including Criminology, Research Methods, and Statistics across B.S., B.S. Online, and M.S. programs, having previously directed both graduate and undergraduate studies within the department.
