Dr Alan Davidson is a Senior Lecturer at the TC Beirne School of Law, University of Queensland. He is a solicitor and barrister of the Supreme Court of New South Wales and the High Court of Australia. Prior to academia, he practiced law for over a decade and held roles including Assistant Professor at Bond University, Lecturer at Queensland University of Technology (acting Head of School), and Associate Dean at James Cook University before joining UQ in 1997. Education: PhD (International Banking Law), Masters (Law), Postgraduate Diploma, and BA from The University of Queensland and University of Wollongong. Research focuses on electronic commerce law, international trade finance, law and technology, and privacy. He participates in UNCITRAL Working Group IV (Electronic Commerce), contributing to global legal frameworks like the Model Law on Electronic Transferable Records. He is a Fellow of the Institute of International Banking Law and Practice and UNCCA’s Education Director, facilitating student participation in international legal forums. Key publications include Social Media and Electronic Commerce Law (Cambridge Press) and numerous contributions to journals such as Documentary Credit World and Australian Law Journal . His work addresses digital transformation in trade, electronic documentation, and cross-border legal harmonization. Awards: Fellowships with the Institute of International Banking Law and Practice and UNCCA. Teaching includes courses on International Trade Law, Banking Law, and Electronic Commerce Law. He has been a visiting academic in the US, Asia-Pacific, and China.
