Carol Wise is a Professor of Political Science and International Relations at the University of Southern California's School of International Relations. Her academic career includes tenure at Johns Hopkins University’s School of Advanced International Studies (1994–2002) before joining USC in 2002. She specializes in international political economy, institutional reform, and China-Latin America relations. Her research emphasizes trade integration, development, and the political implications of China's rise in the region. Her landmark book Dragonomics: How Latin America is Maximizing (or Missing Out) on China’s International Development Strategy (2020) analyzes China’s economic influence in Latin America since the 1990s. Her work explores policy responses to commodity booms, institutional reforms, and geopolitical shifts.
