Professor Liu Tao is a Professor of Biostatistics at Brown University's School of Public Health, where he serves as Director of the Online Master's Program in Biostatistics and Director of the Brown ARCH Research Methods Core. He holds multiple affiliations including the Lifespan/Boston/Brown Center for AIDS Research (CFAR), Brown Data Science Institute (DSI), Advance-Clinical Translational Research (Advance-CTR), and the AMPATH Biostatistics and Data Program. Dr. Liu obtained his PhD in Biostatistics from the University of Pennsylvania. His research spans health data science with particular expertise in clinical decision-making, incomplete data problems, causal inference, diagnostic testing, and clinical trial design. His work frequently addresses issues in infectious diseases, substance abuse, and HIV/AIDS. Analysis of Dr. Liu's recent publications reveals a strong focus on applying biostatistical methods to critical public health issues, particularly in HIV/AIDS, Ebola virus disease, and substance abuse treatment. His research often involves international collaborations, especially with sites in Africa, and increasingly incorporates digital health approaches for mental health interventions and data collection. The publications demonstrate methodological rigor in causal inference, study design, and handling complex health data. ASA 2017 Section on Risk Analysis Student Paper Award Brown School of Public Health Best PhD Poster Presentation Award Dr. Liu has successfully mentored numerous students, with several advised student projects resulting in conference presentations and publications. His grant portfolio includes significant NIH funding, with principal investigator roles on projects related to HIV/AIDS literacy and Ebola virus disease treatment strategies, plus multiple co-investigator roles on major research initiatives. He leads the biostatistics core of several major research centers focused on HIV/AIDS and global health. Through his leadership of the Brown ARCH Research Methods Core and multiple biostatistics cores within HIV/AIDS research centers, Dr. Liu oversees statistical support for numerous clinical and epidemiological studies. His work with the AMPATH program in Kenya demonstrates his commitment to building statistical capacity for global health research.
